Feedback from our trainings
What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based psychotherapy designed to help individuals heal from the symptoms and emotional distress resulting from disturbing life experiences.
By using the eyes, hand tapping, or even tactile stimulators, we can help people to heal their stuck, painful, and scary memories of the past. This is an approach that is somatic, structured, and life changing for thousands of people around the world.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR focuses on the brain’s natural healing ability, specifically targeting how traumatic memories are stored.
EMDR therapy utilizes Bilateral Stimulation (BLS) which occurs through guided visual, auditory, or tactile sensations to activate the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model. This process allows the brain to “reprocess” stuck traumatic memories, moving them from a state of emotional reactivity and visceral, vividness, to a state of calm, historical understanding.
Instead of being stuck in the suffering of the past and reliving our trauma, EMDR can help to see them as they were leading to the internalization of positive beliefs of your choosing.
For more information you can visit EMDRIA’s website.
Key Benefits of EMDR Therapy Training:
EMDR is well supported by the research for PTSD as well as anxiety, and depression.
It is effective for PTSD, anxiety, phobias, and complex, developmental trauma.
It’s recognized as a first line treatment for PTSD by reputable organizations such as the WHO and APA.
Training Curriculum
Why Train with Us?
Because we’re pretty chill, pretty knowledgeable, and actually good clinicians.
To become Basic EMDR trained you need to complete part 1 and part 2 of an EMDR therapy training.
This training also includes the 10 group consultation hours necessary for certification. Read the following for more information.
When you choose our EMDR trainings, you are gaining a unique perspective on the EMDR process. My approach emphasizes:
Mastery of the Eight Phase Protocol: We will teach you the eight phases of the standard EMDR therapy protocol using the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model. Through practicum and didactic teaching we will teach what you need to meet with the clients you meet with.
Working with challenging cases: Zimmerman and I are both complex trauma specialists. We also have a consideration for the spectrum of dissociation and have developed ways to work with difficult cases when other approaches fall short.
Anti-Racist & Anti-Oppressive Frameworks: We will integrate social justice and an understanding of social identity in clinical psychotherapy.
Practical Application: Bringing real world examples beyond the manual to help the clients you actually meet in your office.
Professional Community: Access to ongoing consultation and a network of like-minded down to earth clinicians.
To be a part of any EMDRIA-approved training program, you must meet one of the following criteria:
- Have a master’s or doctoral degree in a clinical mental health-related field . This includes counselling, couple and family therapy, social work, psychology.
- We recommend that you are in active clinical practice and working with clients seeking mental health services.
- Master’s level students are permitted to take the course but we need a letter of recommendation from faculty or a clinical supervisor before you complete your registration.
- Master’s level medical professionals which include nurses and physicians are also permitted to participate in this training if they possess a graduate degree with a focus on the mental health.
- Professionals who work with substance abuse or addictions with master’s degree s or above are also eligible.
- If there are any other special circumstances not listed, contact us and if it is within EMDRIA guidelines, and with supporting documentation you should be eligible.
